No matter the age of your students, origami is something that they will have a lot of fun with. The art of origami, or paper folding, has been popular since the 17th century, but it was practiced primarily within Japan. It just started to become popular outside of Japan in the mid-1900s and has grown in popularity ever since. The reason for its growing popularity is that it can be anything from a basic arts and crafts project to something more complex – the decision is all yours. It is also something that everybody can have a lot of fun with. Even if you don’t know the first thing about it, you will be able to master the basics fairly quickly and should not have a difficult time teaching at least the basics to your students. And, there is nothing wrong with learning at the same time you are teaching the subject!

Origami is nothing more than the act of folding paper to form a particular shape or structure. You can start with the most basic types of origami and then move onto more complex shapes as you learn more. Origami paper is used to make enchanting objects like swans with wings that can really flap and dragons and more. It is amazing that these objects are made solely from folding origami paper and no tape or glue or anything else is used.

If you want to get started with origami related projects, you can begin with almost any type of relatively stiff paper, but if you want to move on to more mastering more complex shapes you really should make the investment and buy origami paper. If you decide to take the plunge into more complex projects, make sure you search for the right type of paper – it has to be for origami or it is not going to work nearly as well.
