I
have researched the behavioral tendencies of children with learning
disabilities, to help modify the behavior of those students who
have to be treated differently than other students and thus require
the teacher to adapt to new teaching ideas. These new teaching ideas
I have learned that there are methods developed for defining, observing,
and measuring your students behaviors and more effective teaching
ideas to intervene and help improve their behavior both at home
and in the classroom.
One teaching idea is a positive behavioral approach for a behaviorally-based
system of teaching techniques. This idea is based on research on
behavior in the context of the environment in which the troublesome
behavior occurs.
The question to ask your self at least sometimes is: who is testing
whom? Here are some suggestions for teaching ideas managing the
disruptive behavior:
Because there exists an anger overload in most children with disabilities:
The teaching ideas you use will be crucial to keeping control of
the children.
• Teaching ideas:
Develop behavioral intervention plans: there are steps you can take
These steps will help you to write a functional behavior assessment
of your students with learning disabilities.
One challenge you face will be teaching parents to help their children
to be more social I cannot stress enough the importance of the role
parents play in their disabled children developing prosocial skills.
You must develop an interpersonal understanding of the social
behavior in your classroom. One teaching idea in this regard calls
for mediation to discover which interpersonal understanding mediates
the relationship between learning disabilities and social adaptation.
Study the highlights of significant changes to teaching ideas in
special education, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act,
and its regulations, as well as new discipline provisions.
Use functional assessments and behavior intervention plans in your
teaching methods - The use of functional assessment will help determine
the reasons behind problem behavior, then you can come up with teaching
ideas that include behavior intervention plans.
New teaching ideas will help you discipline students with disabilities—these
children are more sensitive than other children and will need more
gentle yet effective means of discipline. For example: “time
outs” are usually used for young children, however, once normal
kids reach kindergarten level or maybe first grade, the “time
out” system is much less effective. That is not the case with
Children who have learning disabilities.
When the chips are down the best teaching ideas involving the students
in preventive discipline can help you anticipate many problems before
they start.
LD kids often have emotional problems, primarily childhood depression.
Find a good overview of signs, causes, & negative effects of
childhood depression, plus suggestions for other new teaching ideas.
Be more encouraging with these students than you would be with any
other group of kids and overall, your teaching will be more effective
to modify poor behavior patterns that can prevent the class from
learning. .
The goal in all of your teaching ideas with disabled children is
to understand the childrens hearts and minds, to evaluate their
emotional state—this way you can better understand the emotional
function of learning disabilities, and from there develop teaching
ideas that will keep your class learning and functioning as best
as they can.
