Music
teaching associations
Music Teachers National Association
- This music teaching association has 24,000 independent and
collegiate music teachers.
- The teachers live in all 50 states, which the teaching association
groupes into seven divisions (Eastern, East Central, Northwest,
Southern, Southwest, South Central, West Central)
- The headquarters of this teaching association is in The Carew
Tower, Cincinnati, Ohio
- The Music Teachers National Association was founded in 1876
by Theodore Presser and 52 colleagues in Ohio.
- The mission of this teaching association is ”to advance
the value of music study and music making to society and to support
the professionalism of music teachers…”
The National Association for Music Education (MENC)
- This teaching association has nearly 120,000 members who are
made up of active music teachers, college students preparing to
be teachers, university faculty, researchers, and others.
- The National Association for Music Education is headquartered
in Reston, Virginia.
- The mission of this teaching association is, “To advance
music education by encouraging the study and making of music by
all.”
English Teaching Associations
The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
- This teaching association has over 60,000 members and subscribers
across the United States, and also in other countries. These members
are made up of teachers in elementary, middle, and secondary schools,
as well as faculty in colleges and universities, and other professionals
in related fields.
- This teaching association was founded in 1911.
- The NCTE is headquartered in Urbana, Illinois.
- The mission statement of the National Council of Teachers of
English is: “ The Council promotes the development of literacy,
the use of language to construct personal and public worlds and
to achieve full participation in society, through the learning
and teaching of English and the related arts and sciences of language.”
Science Teachers Association
- The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)
- This teaching association has over 55,000 members, made up
of science teachers and supervisors, administrators, scientists,
and others.
- The NSTA is headquartered in Arlington, VA
- The mission of the National Science Teachers Association is
“… to promote excellence and innovation in science
teaching and learning for all.”
