Teacher MaterialsThe work of a teacher can be hard, stressful, and tedious… in addition to being fun, interesting, and rewarding. What makes a difficult class easier or a good class better or boring class interesting, etc. are excellent teacher materials.

Teacher materials range from lesson plans to staplers. Here is a list of 4 important teacher materials – teacher materials that any and all teachers should have:

1. The most important teacher material is a great lesson plan.

  • This lesson plan cannot simply be “memorized.” It must be written down, readily accessible, and well thought-out.
  • Make sure that your lesson plan has goals, an objective, innovative activities, what materials you will need, and other information.
  • Think about having yesterday’s and tomorrow’s lesson plans in front of you, as well – it is a good idea to have an overall view of the term’s curriculum in front of you.
  • Make sure that you have an extensive lesson plan – your lesson plan should fill the space for the entire day or class… and then some. You do not want to have much “free time.”
  • Have a back-up plan. Make sure that you have a back-up plan in case your class is having trouble with a certain activity, or if you have forgotten important materials, etc. Be flexible.

2. A movie. Yes, a movie may not seem like a very important teacher material, but it can be very useful. If you are having a horrible and stressful day, sometimes you need to take and hour or two to calm down and pull your thoughts together. If you are stressed out and prone to a breakdown, you probably are not going to teach quite as well as you normally would, anyhow. A movie is only a back-up plan. Be sure to have a movie on hand in your classroom, but not just any movie – make sure that the movie is one that you can incorporate into a past, current, or future lesson plan.

3. Modge Podge is an excellent teacher material. If you are ever at lack for a great craft idea, Modge Podge can always come to the rescue. Modge Podge is like glue… but better. Use Modge Podge for crafts like:

  • Gathering natural substances like dirt, leaves, small rocks, etc. and Modge Podge them to a thick piece of paper, and then Modge Podge over them. The Modge Podge will act as a sealant and protect the plants, as well. (you can connect this activity to a nature lesson, science, or whatever).
  • Have your students cut out pictures from magazines or newspapers and have them Modge Podge them to thick paper or a box, etc.
  • Modge Podge can be used to seal a completed puzzle.
  • Popsicle sticks and Modge Podge can go hand in hand for many projects.
  • Be as creative as you want!

4. A good book is yet another important teacher material. No matter what age group you are teaching, a good book can be the key to their hearts. Whether you read a paragraph of inspiration a day, or sit your kids down for a special reading as a reward, a good book is an excellent teacher material to have on hand.
