Having
good teacher
lesson plans can really make your time in the classroom
more productive and more bearable. Of course, it can be difficult
to come up with innovative, fun, and educational teacher lesson
plans.
Here are 5 steps help you come up with the most effective
teacher lesson plans:
1. Come up with an objective. Good teacher lesson
plans have a clear objective.
- Make sure that you stick to your objective. You do not want
your lesson plan to take your class on confusing tangents. The
clearer your objective is, the easier it will be to create the
rest of your lesson plan.
- It is a good idea when coming up with the next day’s lesson
plan to have the teacher lesson plans of the current day or week
and the following day or week in front of you. Sometimes, it is
easier to come up with a clear objective if you have an idea of
what you want your entire curriculum to look like.
- Think of what your students will be able to do during the lesson
and how they will demonstrate that they have learned and understood
the objectives of the lesson.
2. Prerequisites. Think about what students must
already be able to do to master and understand this lesson. Again,
take into consideration your previous lessons. For instance, you
cannot teach a student addition before you teach that student how
to count.
3. Think of the materials that you will need to
complete your teacher lesson plan.
- Think about what books and papers you will need for this lesson.
- Come up with worksheets or something so that students can practice
the objective of the lesson
- Do you need to prepare anything in advance for the activities
like get a projector, etc?
4. Good teacher lesson plans have great lesson
descriptions. The lesson description is a place for you to share
thoughts and advice about your teacher lesson plan with other teachers.
The lesson description can also have a good overview of your lesson
and include the topic focus, the activities, and the purpose.
- How did students react to your teacher lesson plan?
- Why is this lesson plan unique?
- What level of learning does this teacher lesson plan incorporate?
5. Include as part of your teacher lesson plan
the activities that you plan on incorporating. List the games that
you plan on playing, the types of worksheets that you will use,
etc. Be creative. Be innovative. Make sure that your activities
directly relate to your overall objective.
Extra tips for a good teacher lesson plan:
- Remember that the better planned out your lesson plan is, the
easier it will be for other teachers to use it – a good
teacher lesson plan is one that can easily be shared.
- If you are coming up with your own lesson plan, be sure to cater
it to your specific class. All people are different, and the same
is true of classes. Think of a lesson plan that your students
will enjoy.
- If you are having trouble coming up with ideas, take a look
at other teacher lesson plans. You can ask peers, or you can find
excellent teacher lesson plans on the web for sale or for free.
Feel free to combine the highlights of multiple teacher lesson
plans – just make sure that all of the tid-bits you take
relate directly to your overall objective.
- Remember to have fun with your teacher lesson plans!
