Crafts.

One
Idea for a St.
Patrick’s Day art project or craft is to have
them make the Ireland Flag:
The children can make their own Ireland Flags with red, green and
white construction paper. Use a chopstick or a straw for the flagpole.
Have your students create the color green as a St. Patrick’s
Day art project and/or craft:
Ask the children which of the primary colors you need to use to
make green. Then supply them with blue and yellow paint and white
paper. It is a good idea to start with your yellow and add a little
amount of blue. But let the children to mix the colors to their
favorite shade of green. Discuss why all the colors of green are
a little different.
—Or, you can use water in a clear glass and use two drops
of yellow food coloring with one drop of green.
Incorporate math or science into your St. Patrick’s
Day art projects and crafts:
Goop
Mix 2 cups water with a little green food coloring, add 6 cups of
cornstarch to make goop the goop—notice the consistency of
the goop and why it changes—discuss this scientific phenomenon
with your class.
Shamrock Sequencing
Cut out many different sizes of shamrocks. (Four or five will probably
be fine). Have your children arrange the shamrocks in order of size,
largest to smallest or smallest to largest.
Hunt for Green
Ask your children to look around the room for things that are green
and write down what they find.
Prism fun
You can find a prism at many science stores or teachers store. Show
your child the prism, and how to see all the colors of a rainbow
in the prism.
Incorporate music into your St. Patrick’s Day art lessons:
Green Song (Sung to te tune of "Bingo")
There is a color
That I say
That represents St. Patrick's Day
G-R-E-E-N
G-R-E-E-N
G-R-E-E-N
And Green is that color
You can always include snacks in your St. Patrick’s Day
art projects and crafts:
Have the children decorate Shamrock Cookies:
Do this St. Patrick’s Day craft by using your favorite recipe
for sugar cookies (or any other kind of cookie you would prefer)
and use shamrock shaped cookie cutter. When the cookies are cool,
let the children place green icing and green sugar, green sprinkles
or even green shamrock shaped sprinkles on top.
Green Kool Aid
With your regular snack, serve green cool aid.
Green Milk
Have the children add a drop of green food coloring to the milk
and stir—this could be a great drink to go with the shamrock
cookies.
Green Ice Cream
Add a drop of green food coloring to vanilla ice cream, or serve
chocolate mint ice cream. Both are great with green sprinkles, green
sugar, or shamrock shaped sprinkles on top.
