Here is a list of the state teacher certification requirements of
some states, including New York, Washington, Texas, and Pennsylvania:
New York State teacher certification requirements
New York State teacher certification requirements are: to be employed
in the state’s public schools, all New York state teachers,
teaching assistants, administrators, and pupil personnel professionals
must have a New York State certificate. A New York state certificate
shows that an individual has met all academic degree, assessment,
course work, and experience requirements. Individuals can get certificates
in titles relating to:
· classroom teaching
· teaching assistant
· student support service (like a school counselor or psychologist
or social worker, etc.)
· administrative and supervisory
Washington state teacher certification requirements
Here is a list of the Washington state teacher certification requirements:
· 18 years of age
· A background check (fingerprinted and screened by the Washington
state Patrol and the FBI)
· A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited
college or university
· A preparation program taken from a regionally accredited
college or university.
· A basic skills test is necessary if you are applying from
out-of-state for a residency certificate. You must pass the basic
skills test within twelve months of receiving your temporary permit.
· An endorsement test is necessary if you are applying after
August 31. 2005.
Texas state teacher certification requirements
To meet Texas state teacher certification requirements, a person must first pass examinations of professional knowledge, as well as subject matter knowledge. Also, applicants must satisfy other requirements by following one of several routes to educator certification (university-based programs, alternative programs for educator preparation, certification based on credentials from outside Texas, additional certification based on examination, etc.).
Pennsylvania state teacher certification requirements
Pennsylvania state teacher certification requirements include:
completion of a state-approved teacher education program including
a student teaching or intern experience, Praxis I and Praxis II
assessments, and application materials that document that all certificate
requirements have been met.
