Spring classroom ideas

Spring classroom ideasIf you have an older class, your spring classroom ideas may want to involve a lesson or two on the changing seasons. Why and how does winter turn to spring. What happens in the springtime? What signs are there to show that spring is coming?

· Spring classroom ideas: Observing the changes:
As the winter fades, take the children out on walks and have them notice the different changes in the plants around them.

  • You will need:
A set trail or set outside route to walk (hopefully around or nearby the school) regularly.
    Notebooks
    Pencils and colored pencils
  • How to approach this: spring classroom idea/project.
    1) Begin this spring classroom idea as a spring project—but before the foliage begins to show.
    2) On the first walk, have the children pick a spot that they will focus on for the entire spring classroom project such as a twig or branch on a tree. A shrub without leaves. A place where annual flowers have been planted but have not begun to grow yet.
    3) Have each child be prepared for the walk with a set of colored pencils and a notebook. They will journal their initial observation and draw a simple picture.
    4) Take your walks about three times a week, if not more. Each day that you go out to work on this spring classroom project, have the children journal a bit more, and draw/sketch out the changes they seein their notebooks.
    5) The second element of this spring classroom idea. Is to educate the students on what they are observing. As they note these spring changes. Make sure you include class lectures to coincide with what they are observing so that the students understand the scientific part of the turning of winter to spring.

· Spring classroom ideas: "Thumbody Loves You!"
This spring classroom idea is especially for younger children, they can use this spring classroom idea as a craft to take home for their parents or guardians.

  • You will need:
White construction paper (green construction paper is optional)
Paints, paint pens, markers or crayons
  • Steps:
    1) Divide the white pieces of construction paper into thirds.
    2) Have the students write the phrase "Thumbody Loves You!" on the top.
    3) Underneath, have the students draw a flower with stem and leaves. 4)
    4) Have the children use paint and paint their thumbs, then and place their thumbs in the center of the flower.
    5) Once the paint is dry, let the students color in the flower. These are great spring classroom ideas for artwork to send home with the children.
    6) This spring classroom ideas also works great as a book mark!

· Spring classroom ideas—Making butterflies
This is a really simple spring classroom idea that the kids will be sure to love!

  • You will need:
    White construction paper
    Colored paints
  • Have the children take a sheet of white paper fold it down the center
  • Then have the students put a drop of paint in the center of the paper
  • Next have the students put a different color in next to the first drop of paint on one half of the paper and fold it.
  • Make sure the students smash their papers good to really spread the paint all over. This is one of my favorite spring classroom ideas!
