Science
fair topics are perhaps the hardest and yet most important
part of a science fair project. In fact, coming up with a good science
fair topic can be even harder than carrying out the science fair
project!
Of course, taking time to choose a good science fair topic is worth it. Make sure that you come up with a science fair topic that you are truly interested in – if you do not, then the work that you have to do to complete your project will be horribly tedious and hard to complete. Also, make sure that you come up with a fairly specific idea. You are going to have a heck of a hard time if you choose as your science fair topic “Geology” – such a topic is so big it will be overwhelming. Instead, you should narrow it down to something more akin to “A comparison of the porosity of different types of soil in my neighborhood.”
Those are just a few hints to help you with your science fair topic, now here are a few science fair topics for you to consider:
Science Fair Topics for Geology
· build a working model to show how earthquakes are caused
· make your own fossil
· use an air-pressure model and demonstrate the eruption
of a volcano
· demonstrate “weathering”
· grow crystals
Science Fair Topics for Astronomy
· build your own sundile
· determine how many stars can be seen from your school or
home
· explain the phases of the moon
· create your own constellations from the stars that you
can see from your school
· show why the sun is hot
· build your own telescope
· show the effects of the moon on the tide
· measure the diameter of the sun, earth, or moon
Science Fair Topics for Chemistry
· Which brand of microwave popcorn leaves the most unpopped
kernels?
· Make a baking soda volcano
· Make a potato battery
· Make your very own soap
· Compare environmentally friendly antifreeze to regular
antifreeze (with help from your parents!)
· Do fat candles burn faster than skinny ones? Colored ones
faster than white ones?
Science Fair Topics for Biology
· Do plants grow better in soil or water?
· Does talking to plants or playing music help them grow?
· Can a plant grow upside down?
· How does salt water affect plant growth?
· Do boys and girls have different resting pulse rates?
· How does caffeine affect a person’s blood pressure
or their heart rate?

· Does the size of a pumpkin affect the amount of seeds inside?
What about with other squash or fruit?
· Do boys or girls have better manners?!
These are just a few science fair topics to help you get the ball
rolling. You can, of course, try out any of these topics, but it
will be even more rewarding if you come up with your very own twist
on such a topic or a completely different science fair topic altogether.
