Do
not forget anything—use a school
supplies checklist to keep you classroom ready and
set to go!
School supplies are essential to your teaching. The curriculum
you use should supply if not list for you all the traditional creative
resources you will need. Some things might get in the way of your
goals as a teacher if you can not provide certain materials for
your students: things like budget and space. But you will want to
be sure, before class begins, that your classroom is stocked with
the school supplies you need. Here is a basic school supplies checklist
to help you prepare for the year ahead:
Basic Checklist
Fine-point felt-tip markers, and thick-point felt-tip markers
Plain markers and crayons (non-toxic)
Colored pencils
White as well as colored chalk
Index cards, poster board and rolls of butcher paper
Construction paper in multicolor packs and glue sticks
Scissors both child size and adult size
Rulers, 12", plastic
Hole punchers and staplers with plenty of staples
Color folders in packs of 100
Pencils and pencil sharpeners
Rolls of transparent tape and rolls of masking tape
Here are some great additions, which may even seem like essentials
for your goals for the year. Make sure they are provided before
school begins, if that is the case. If you have the chance and the
budget—you may also want to consider technology in the classroom
(i.e., computers):
Map(s) of the world and/or a map of your home country
Cork board
Plastic storage bins
Gel pens and modeling clay
Binding machine (for making books) with plastic materials for binding
Specialty paper and clipboards
Tracing paper
Yarn
Finger paints, poster paints, and paint brushes
Glitter and other adornments
Old magazines
School supplies are very important to have at the start of the
year. You can not plan your lessons without them!
