New Years projects and activities are always great to celebrate the season!

· New Years projects and activities: Pop-up New Year's Card

This is a great but simple pop-up New Years card that you can make with your students from construction paper. The can give the cards to their parents or friends when they are done. This New Years project/activity is loads of fun!

• You will need:
  Three pieces of construction paper
  Scissors
  Pencils
  Glue
  Markers, glitter or glitter glue (optional)
• First, for this New Years activity have the students fold two pieces of construction paper in half. One piece will be the outside of the card; one piece will be the inside of the card.
• On the inner part of the New Years card, have your students take their scissors and make four short, parallel cuts along the fold line. The cuts they make should be in two pairs.
• Then fold over the flaps that were formed by the cuts.
• Next in this great New Years activity, have the students unfold the folds they have just made and open up the card.
• Then have the students push up the flaps made by the cuts. These will hold up the numbers.
• Make sure that the students close the New Years card so that the flaps are inside the card.
• Have each student in your class cut out large numbers example: 2006 from another piece of construction paper, but make sure that the numbers will fit inside the New Years card when it is closed.
• Then the students can glue the numbers to the flaps and close the card.
• The class will glue the other folded piece of construction paper onto the outside of the New Years card—help them out to make sure that they do not glue on the place where the numbers are.
• (Optional) Decorate your New Years projects with glitter glue or markers.
  
  New Years projects and activities variations: Instead of numbers, your students could draw and cut out stars, fireworks, or champagne glasses to pop up out of their New Years cards.

· New Years projects and activities: Fireworks
Create your own fireworks picture by using dark construction paper, glue and different colors of glitter.

• You will need:
  Black or very dark construction paper
  Glitter
  White glue
  Old newspapers or a drop cloth
  A straw (optional)
• Work on old newspapers or your drop cloth so you do not make too much of a mess.
• Spread glue on the paper in geometric shapes. If the glue is soft enough, you can put a small blob of glue on the paper, and then blow some air through a straw to spread it into interesting shapes.
• You can experiment with the consistency of the glue and the angle of the straw.
• Sprinkle glitter onto the glue. Slide the excess glitter off your picture and back into the glitter container.
• Optional: Repeat the glue and glitter process with different colors of glitter.
• Let the glue dry.
