Music
education is a very important form of education. Just because music
education does not directly teach about math, science, English,
or other important school subjects does not mean that it is not
equally as important. Sadly, though, some people are failing to
recognize the importance of music education. Music education, as
a result, is disappearing from some schools.
Why schools, especially elementary schools, should continue
to offer music education:
Music education has been shown to be very beneficial to students.
Students who have been given an extensive music education are more
likely to have success in school, success in developing intelligence,
success in society, and success in life.
Music education encourages self discipline. Students must practice
and practice their instruments to be able play well – students
need to be self disciplined to practice. Students cal also learn
dedication – it takes great dedication to learn and perfect
music. Teamwork can also be learned – students who are playing
instruments in bands or orchestras must learn to play not as a soloist,
but as part of a team. Students also expand their knowledge with
music education – to be good musicians, students must learn
music theory, history, and more.
A music education also builds self confidence, hard work, goal
setting, humility, and more. Music education does not simply give
students knowledge, it gives students new ways of looking at the
world (and hearing it, too.) A music education lets students express
their creative sides. A music education encourages important values
and new ways of thinking.
