Make
a Butterfly Card for mom
Supplies needed:
Steps:
1. Fold two pieces of construction paper in half,
making to greeting card shapes.
2. Put the two folded cards together one inside
the other.
3. Keeping them together, draw half a butterfly along the fold.
4. Still keeping them together, cut along the
line you just drew. You will now have two butterflies.
5. On only one of the butterflies, fold it back in half
the way it was and draw a smaller butterfly 1/4 to 1/2 inch inside the larger butterfly.. Cut along the line
you just drew.
6. Glue the smaller of the butterflies onto the larger butterfly.
7. Using the hole punch, make a series of holes
along the folded edge of the glues pieces.
8. Cut a black or brown body for your butterfly from a chenille stem.
Glue it onto the inside of your butterfly.
9. Decorate your butterfly with crayons, markers,
glitter glue or glitter.
10. You now have a great butterfly card. Write a
message on your card.
Mother’s Day Hand shaped flowers:
Have each child trace their hand onto a piece of paper. Then have
the child cut it out. Obtain a picture of the child to place in
the middle with glue. Have the child paint a Popsicle stick green.
When the stick is dry, glue or tape the hand shape on the stick
to make hand shaped flowers.
Variation:
Supply each child with a cup to decorate. Place a little bit of
play dough in the bottom of the cup and stick the flower in the
cup.
Mother’s Day Fun Frames:
You will need six Popsicle sticks, glue, decorations, two small magnets, construction paper and a picture of the child. Then you make a frame with four popsicle sticks. Lay two stick parallel to one another (stick 1 and 2) then complete the from with sticks 3 and 4. Then to make the picture stay in you will need to add stick 5 and 6 on the top and bottom of the frame. So you have sticks 3 and 4 (the sides) with a stick on the top in front, top in back, bottom in front and bottom in back. Follow? Connect these sticks with glue. When dry have the children decorate these sticks with paint, glue and glitter, macaroni, string, lace, puzzle pieces... whatever Let that dry. Cut a piece of paper to fit the back of the frame. Glue that on. Cut the picture to fit in the frame, and insert the picture. Then glue the magnets at the top and bottom of the back of the frame. Viola.. an awesome mothers day gift.
Mother’s Day Hand Prints:
Paint the child's hands, or feet with a paint brush and tempera
(or non toxic) paint. Press onto a piece of paper. Write a cute
poem or saying at the bottom. Like this one:
Sometimes you get discouraged
because I am so small
and always leave my finger prints
on furniture and walls
But every day I'm growing
I'll be grown someday
and all those tiny hand prints
will surely fade away
So here's a little hand print
just so you can recall
exactly how my fingers looked
when I was very small
Mother’s Day Flowers:
Obtain small clay pots. Have the children decorate them with non
toxic paint. When dry add dirt and flowers.
The Ultimate Paperweight:
Supply each child with some modeling clay. Let them shape it however
they wish. Let them add marbles, buttons, glitter, sand, pebbles,
string, whatever you can think of. After it dries it's a paperweight.
