Typical
learning disabilities include dyslexia and can be associated with
disorders such as attention deficit disorder. Dyslexia can interfere
with learning processes in reading, spelling, writing and counting.
People with dyslexia may suffer from coordination problems and problems
with memory and following instructions.
Those most at risk:
· Males
· Twins
· People with hearing difficulties
· Left handed and/or ambidextrous
· Right brain people (such as those with talents in the
arts)
· Those with a family history of learning disorders
It is important to recognize the signs of dyslexia in order to
get proper help. The following are signs that may suggest dyslexia:
· Late in learning to speak
· Difficulty in remembering nursery rhymes
· Confusion between right and left
· Difficulty in sequencing alphabet
· Difficulty learning tables
· Difficulty remembering instructions
· Cannot copy from the chalkboard
· Odd pencil grip
· Poor organizational skills
· Poor handwriting
· Difficulty looking up words in the dictionary.
· Difficulty understanding concepts such as in/on/under/above.
