This
is a short guide on how to find teaching jobs. Not everyone know
how to find teaching jobs, and that is perfectly understandable
– sometimes it seems like they are hiding or are just out
of reach. We are going to teach you how to find teaching jobs. Just
follow these steps:
· Use the career center of your university or college to
help show you how to find a teaching job.
o Establish a professional career folder with letters of recommendation,
official copies of transcripts, and also your teaching certification
documents. Your career center can keep these on file permanently
for future employers’ reference.
§ Also keep in your career folder a statement of your teaching
philosophy that includes and highlights your classroom methodology,
coursework, and teaching preparation.
o You can also use the career center to obtain examples of great
resumes of other educators to help you see how to write your own
fantastic resume. Make sure you include your specialization and
courses that relate to it, courses that you taught as a student
teacher, and other important information.
§ Write a generic cover letter to use when you send out your
resumes – of course, make sure that you modify your resume
for each job you are applying for. Be sure to include reasons as
to why you want to teach at a specific school and also the contributions
that you will be able to make to that school if they hire you.
· Besides using your career center to help you find teaching
jobs, you can use your college career center, internet sites, personal
professional contacts, and local and regional newspapers.
· Do not simply send in your resume and application to school
and leave it at that. Be sure to follow up your applications with
a phone call to the school district office to which you have applied.
· Do not just apply for one teaching job – be sure
to apply to every school that interests you within a certain district.
If you cannot get any of those jobs, consider working in a less
desirable location – it may be easier to get the teaching
job, and it will still be great experience.
· Announcement for job openings start appearing early in
the spring – start searching for a job then. Schools are going
to want to fill these positions as long before the new school year
starts as possible.
These are just a few suggestions on how to find teaching jobs.
