Many
great schools have grandparent's day, and there are, of course,
a variety of grandparent's
day projects and activities for just such an occasion.
· Grandparent's day projects and activities—the
scavenger hunt:
- Set up your scavenger hunt and give each child and his or her
grandparent or grandparents a set of clues to find the items that
have been set out for them to find.
- You can have this grandparent's day activity outside if the
weather permits, or you can have it inside the school—in
the gym, classrooms, cafeteria, etc.
- Make your scavenger hunt relatively easy, so that the grandparents
don not have to do all the work. The students should feel like
they are working with their grandparents together for this grandparent's
day activity.
Each student/grandparent(s) team will get a prize at the end of
the scavenger hunt. The student/grandparent(s) team who found the
most items on the list will get the biggest prize in this Grandparent's
day activity.
· Grandparent's day projects and activities—Our
hands and feet.
This is an especially good grandparent's day project for any time
of the year.
- You will need:
A long piece of butcher paper
Washable paints
Markers
Plenty of water and paper towels
Tacks, sticky tacks or a staple gun
You may want to have the student and his or her grandparents go
one at a time for this grandparent's day project to make it less
hectic and messy. Make sure that your piece(s) of butcher paper
are long enough to lay out and dry, but also long enough for all
of the children and their grandparents to use.
- Have the children and their grandparents choose a color of paint
and paint one hand. Both the student and the grandparent(s) will
make handprints on the paper. The grandparent(s) handprint beside
the students handprint.
- Then have the students and their grandparents do the same with
their feet.
- Underneath each of the pairs of hands and feet—write the
child and grandparents name.
- Then, in turn, each child and grandparent will wash off their
hands and feet with water and paper towels.
- Lay out the butcher paper to dry.
- Once dry, staple or tack the butcher paper to the walls around
the room. It will be a great classroom decoration as well as a
fond reminder for the children of their Grandparent's day projects
and activities.
These are only a couple of ideas for Grandparent's day projects
and activities. Once you have finished your Grandparent's day projects
and activities, there will be stuff to leave in the classroom and
probably be stuff to take home, too. The students will love their
Grandparent's day projects and activities so much, they will want
Grandparent's day to be every day—or at least more than once
a year.
