Fun
lesson ideas can be difficult to come up with –
especially after you have already been coming up with fun lesson
ideas for the past few months. After a while, your reserve can be
drained. Do not worry, we have some very fun lesson ideas for teaching
math right here:
Fun lesson ideas for math – Shaving Cream Math
This is a fun lesson idea that your students are sure to love. Why? Because it is a messy lesson idea, and kids love to get messy! Cover a work table with foil or wax paper. Allow the kids to spray out a big pile of foaming shaving cream (you don’t want to get the gel…). Then let the kids spread the shaving cream all of the table. They can then practice writing numbers or doing addition and subtraction by drawing in the shaving cream with their fingers.
Fun lesson ideas for math – Fractions With Food
You can easily change a plain lesson idea into a fun lesson idea by adding food. Who does not love food? And who does not love pizza? You can make mini English muffin pizzas with spaghetti sauce and cheese (and other toppings) to teach kids about fractions. You can show kids the difference between a ½, a whole, ¾ , and ¼, etc. Although, English muffin pizzas cannot be divided into pieces much smaller than ¼ -- so if you want to talk about smaller fractions, maybe you ought to call Pizza Hut!
Fun lesson ideas for math – Cheerio Abacus
Another fun lesson idea that involves food is to have your kids make their own abacus out of cheerios or fruit loops. For young kids, you can keep it pretty simple and just have your kids string 10 cheerios on a piece of yarn or string. They can use this abacus to help them count.
Fun lesson ideas for math – Newspaper Number Hunt
A newspaper number hunt is definitely a fun lesson idea. What kid does not like to search for treasure, even if that treasure is just a number in the newspaper? Have your students search through the newspaper and try to find number 1-100 (or 1-10 or 25-35, etc.). When they find the number, let them cut it out and paste them in order on graph paper.
There are many other possibilities for fun lesson ideas. The main
thing that you have to remember is that you can be as creative as
you want – the more creative the better. Take a look around
and see what everyday items you can use to come up with your own
fun lesson ideas.
