What
is continuing education?
Continuing
education is designed to keep a professional up-to-date
in his or her field of expertise. Educators, for instance, may continue
to take classes on how to manage students, environmental studies,
math, computer usage, or anything that they think would help them
teach a better class (a teacher may want to take environmental studies
so that she can teach her students about the earth and conversation
and recycling. A teacher may want to take a computer class so that
she can pass on her new knowledge to her students in the computer
lab).
Continuing education is even required in some professions –
there are some professions that require a certain number of continuing
education credits every year or five years, etc. to maintain a consultant’s
certification, for instance.
Who takes continuing education classes?
Of course, not all people who take continuing education classes
are taking them for professional reasons. There are many people
continuing education because they like to learn, or they want to
know more about something. Maybe a person always wishes that he
learned how to take good photographs, and with continuing education,
he still can. Or, maybe somebody wants to take a literature class
so that she can talk with other readers about great books. There
are all sorts of reasons that a person may want to sign up for continuing
education.
What about online continuing education classes?
These days, a person can even take continuing education classes
from the comfort of his own home – there are online continuing
education classes. Such online continuing education classes are
great, because many people who are choosing to further education
already have professional careers or full-time lives – they
may not have time to commute to a campus and take a class. Class
schedules may not go hand in hand with their life schedules.
Continuing education online just requires a school that offers
such courses and internet access. You can take classes on calculus,
psychology, early childhood development, anthropology classes, and
many more classes. Online classes can make your life easier…
you can make time to learn without messing around too much with
your other, life schedule.
