As a teacher the more bulletin board ideas you have the better off you will be. This is particularly true when dealing with younger students. The following bulletin board ideas are perfect for students in kindergarten through fourth grade. You will probably have most of the teacher supplies needed, but none of them are very expensive.
Welcome Back Students
At the beginning of the year you may not have many bulletin board ideas to choose from. After all, you don’t know what your students are into or the types of activities they enjoy. A “welcome back students” bulletin board is one that you definitely want to consider. With this, each student will decorate a paper plate as a self portrait. Not only does this look cool on a bulletin board, but it will also get your students out of their shell.
Balloons! Balloons! Balloons!
This activity also consists of paper plate decorating. The only difference is that they are making a balloon this time around. You will need art supplies including: crayons, water colors, markers, glitter, glue, and colored paper. Chances are that you will have all of these supplies as the new school year gets underway.
When all of your students are done you can attach the paper plate balloons to the bulletin board. From there, your board will be in good shape for many weeks to come.
Handprint Tree
This is one of those bulletin board ideas that has spread like wildfire over the years. To start, each student traces his or her hand onto construction paper. From there, the students will cut out their hand and then write their name on it. Tip: use safety scissors to ensure that all your students are 100 percent safe at all times.
Now for the bulletin board – attach a tree trunk that you create out of construction paper. You can have your students help with this as well, if they are up to it.
The last step is when you and your students attach the handprints that will act as leaves. Some of them can be put “lower” on the bulletin board to make them look like they have fallen off the tree.
Sunflowers!
To get started with the “sunflowers project” you need to attach a large yellow circle to your bulletin board. You can use either craft paper or construction paper.
Next, attach yellow crepe paper or construction paper around the circle to signify petals. Finally, each of your students can get involved by gluing real sunflower weeds to the center of the flower.
These bulletin board ideas are intended to get your students excited and involved. Along with that, they will spice up your classroom. There is nothing worse than an empty bulletin board. Your students will have fun knowing that they contributed. Along with this, many projects, such as the “welcome back students”, can be taken home at some point. In other words, your students can display their art in the classroom then take it home for their family to see.
These are just a few bulletin board ideas that will keep you and your students busy throughout the year. Can you think of any others?
