Students love using colored pencils. In fact, they would use these all day every day, instead of traditional pencils, if teachers would let them. Of course, there are times when they should be used and times when they should not.  But they should always be included in your list of classroom supplies. 

The obvious benefit of colored pencils is simple to understand: they offer more than the “traditional black” color. And as you know, colors are one thing that gets students excited.

When shopping for colored pencils you need to consider all your options. To start, you may want to buy one box for your entire class. This is just enough to show them what they are all about and how they can be used.

If your entire class will be using colored pencils at the same time, such as for a project, you should include several boxes among your teaching supplies. This way you do not have students fighting over the same color.  You could also consider getting a classpack.  You could still have some need for sharing, but it would be minimized.
