You probably know already that bulletin boards are the communications center of the classroom, or sometimes the communications center of the entire school, depending on how your school communications are structured.  So, if your classroom doesn’t have one yet, adding a bulletin board to the rest of your school supplies should be your first priority.  Once you have one, make sure your bulletin board supplies include either staples, tacks or sticky wax to attach things to it.  Then you need to decide what you want to use it for.

The second of these classroom supplies is what are known as trimmers or borders.  They are meant to put around the edges of the board so you can pin up posters with such things as class rules, no bullying signs, etc.

Most teachers start the school year off by posting the class rules so no one has any excuse when he or she screws up.  You can do that and leave the rules posted throughout the year or you can change the rules out with other posters from time to time.  Just don’t dispose of the rules, because you probably will want to post them again from time to time or just whenever the class seems to forget what the rules are.  Some teachers even buy several different sets of classroom rules posters so they can change them out and keep them fresh without changing the message.

The next thing that elementary school teachers like to do is get a birthday chart to celebrate the birthdays of all of the children in the class.  Every child likes to see their name and loves to be the center of attention.  What better way to do that than celebrate their birthday!

After that, it’s totally up to the individual teachers as to what bulletin board supplies they use to decorate their boards and their classroom in general.  So do whatever you feel like.  It all depends on what classroom décor you have decided to focus on.
