Ask anyone and you will be told how much toys have changed over the years. Electronics have made a huge inroad into the toy market and today, if it doesn't beep, whirl or wiggle, it is considered old-fashioned. Gone are the days when toys were handed down from generation to generation and the best toys were handcrafted and would literally last a lifetime. For some reson, however, "playing with the box the toy came in" is still something that you will hear from most parents about the way their children played with their Christmas toys.

One one type of toy that has not succumbed to the vagaries of time and electronics is a set of building blocks. Building blocks are one of the most basic, but most fun, toys out there. As such, building blocks just continue to maintain their place as a favorite with most children . But, even with building blocks, changes have come into vogue. It isn't necessarily that they have become electornic, although there are several types of electronic building toys around today. No, the changes to building blocks are a lot more subtle. Now, instead of just having square building blocks, triangular building blocks and rectangular building blocks that you really have to use your imagination with, building blocks come in all different motifs so that you can construct a medeival castle complete with ramparts, or a fairytale castle from which to rescue a fair maiden. You still have to use a little imagination, but not nearly as much as you had to years ago.
